Giants rally to win game that features Zito-Fielder confrontation

After a long winter, there's nothing like taking a pitch in the middle of the back to get the bad blood flowing again.

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder was the target of apparent retaliation on Thursday when he was hit by the first pitch from San Francisco left-hander Barry Zito in the first inning of a 5-3 victory by the Giants on Thursday.

The Giants had been simmering since Sept. 6, when Fielder celebrated a walk-off home run against them at Milwaukee's Miller Park by acting like a bowling ball and "knocking over" his teammates, who fell like bowling pins.

Upton signs $51.25M, 6-year deal

Justin Upton has lived with high expectations virtually since the day he picked up a baseball bat.

Now at 22, with two full major league seasons already behind him, he says he welcomes the challenge of living up to the $51.25 million, six-year contract he signed on Wednesday with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the second-largest deal in franchise history.

Peavy sells Gonzalez to Williams

Chicago White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy confirmed on Sunday that he has had conversations with general manager Kenny Williams about acquiring San Diego Padres first baseman Adrian Gonzalez.

Peavy, who was teammates with Gonzalez in San Diego, gave Williams information about the slugger's character as well as his ability during their conversations.

Jose Reyes meets with FBI about doctor

Mets shortstop Jose Reyes said Sunday he met with federal investigators last week regarding a Canadian doctor accused of selling an unapproved drug.

Dr. Anthony Galea is facing four charges in his country related to the unapproved drug known as Actovegin, which is extracted from calf's blood and used for healing. His assistant also has been charged in the U.S. for having HGH and another drug while crossing the border in September.

D-backs' Webb feels good after 45-pitch session

Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Brandon Webb feels good after his latest throwing session.

The former Cy Young winner is coming back from surgery on his right shoulder last August. He threw 45 pitches on Thursday and calls it another step forward in his recovery.

Webb expects to be ready to start the Diamondbacks' third game of the regular season. Dan Haren will pitch the opener, followed by Edwin Jackson.
